A Toronto Real Estate Board member has reported that a property that is listed for sale was fraudulently posted on Craigslist, and represented as a home available for rent at $1,000 per month.
The Member believes that the home, which is located in Mississauga, came to the fraudster’s attention because it was posted it as a property for sale on Kijiji and included its address.
The Craigslist posting was discovered April 1 after a prospective tenant arrived at the homeowner’s door to inquire about leasing the property.
The fraudster advises prospective tenants via email that since she is travelling to West Africa, they should provide her with first and last month’s rent, and she will send them the keys. The fraudster also notes that she previously listed the house for sale but has chosen to lease it instead.
This incident has been reported to police.
